Onondaga County Rental Relief Fund

InterFaith Works is joining the effort to help its clients and others economically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic avoid the risk of eviction from their homes. The agency is participating in an awareness campaign directed at tenants to provide them assistance in completing a web-based application administered by the Onondaga County Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

Activated in April, Onondaga County’s program is expected to receive $21 million in federal funds to help tenants with rent payment shortfalls due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and reach out to their landlords owed back rent. Onondaga County Department of Social Services’ Economic Security staff is reviewing all applications, making eligibility determinations (per federal guidelines) and issuing payments to landlords.

Funding for the program is part of the most recent federal stimulus bill, which included $25 billion to distributed among the States for Emergency Rental Assistance programs.
