Service Opportunity: Digital Navigator

Bridge the digital divide for low-income older adults! Design a program to help older adults use technology safely and confidently. The Digital Navigator VISTA will build Digital Literacy programming that helps older adults improve their digital skills, avoid scams, access benefits, and stretch their income. Digital Navigator VISTA will build partnerships with host locations like community centers, libraries, and senior housing; create systems for procuring, setting up and maintaining a mobile lab; create a recruitment, training, and management system for Digital Literacy volunteers; test out methods for delivering classes, including scheduling systems, outreach and sign-up methods, data tracking, and collecting feedback to improve the program: and contribute to community-wide efforts to grow digital literacy in our region.

Service Opportunity: Community Organizer

Create economic opportunity for older adults! Collaborate to address senior poverty and increase access to federal benefits. The Community Organizer VISTA will conduct outreach, educate and engage community members, and build capacity for the newly established Benefits Enrollment Center (BEC). The BEC helps low-income older adults apply for federal benefits that reduce poverty. The BEC is a project of the Aging Services Coalition of Greater Syracuse, which to increase social connectedness and economic opportunity for older adults in Onondaga County. The Aging Services Coalition is convened by InterFaith Works.
