SUMMARY:30th Annual Senior Companion Recognition Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nFor 30 years the Senior Companion Recognition Luncheon has brought together Senior Companions for a social gathering of appreciation and acknowledgement of their invaluable service to their clients. The 2016 Luncheon will be held on Wednesday\, September 14\, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.\, at the Holiday Inn\, 441 Electronics Parkway\, Liverpool. \nInterFaith Works’ Senior Companion Program addresses the physical and emotional needs of frail elderly clients throughout Central New York. The program recruits and trains Companions who are then matched with an elderly client to provide friendship\, companionship and socialization. Over the past year\, 58 companions have dedicated almost 60\,000 hours serving 150 seniors in Onondaga\, Madison and Cayuga counties. \nThe Companion volunteers\, who are seniors themselves\, provide assistance\, caring\, and friendship to other seniors who have difficulty with daily living tasks. They help them to live independently\, aging in place\, delaying the move to expensive institutional care. The program also provides lower income Companions with a meaningful service opportunity and a source of income to supplement their modest fixed incomes. The Companions are a diverse group\, many bilingual\, serving elders of different backgrounds and cultures. There is no charge to clients for their services\, which allows many elderly people to receive assistance they could otherwise not afford. This program also helps provide the clients’ families with peace of mind.
