Dear friend,

At 45,000, the refugee resettlement admissions ceiling set by the Trump administration is the lowest number ever established by any president since the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program was created in 1980. If this stands, America’s reputation and capacity as a safe haven will be tarnished for years to come.

Resettling refugees doesn’t just save lives; it also makes the United States safer and plays an important role in U.S. foreign policy and security.

With more refugees than at any point in recorded history, now is the time to show that America welcomes refugees.

Make your voice heard by calling your representatives in Congress and urging them to pass legislation to welcome refugees at a level proportionate to the crisis and in line with our capacity, history and values.

HELP US BY CALLING YOUR SENATORS & REPRESENTATIVES TODAY:

Sample Script: “I’m your constituent from [CITY/TOWN]. In the face of the largest global refugee crisis in recorded history, the Presidential Determination represents the United States’ commitment to offering safe haven to the world’s refugees.

Congress must act to pass legislation that demonstrates strong support for refugee resettlement and rejects the decision made by this administration.

To remain a global humanitarian leader, we must continue to welcome refugees who need a safe place to live, work, and raise their families. People’s lives and futures are at stake.

As your constituent, I urge you to actively pursue legislation to welcome refugees to the U.S. in Fiscal Year 2018 at a level proportionate to the crisis and in line with our capacity, history and values.

I believe that America must continue to be a global leader in refugee resettlement, and that welcoming and protecting refugees saves lives and makes us stronger and safer as a community and as a country.”

Feel free to share a personal story about standing in solidarity with refugees. Let them know the specific ways that refugees contribute and are welcomed into your community.  Refugees are helping to grow economies and communities in Upstate New York, including Syracuse, where they have helped offset a declining population, opened businesses, purchased homes, paid taxes, bought goods and services, and added diversity to our community.

Just make 4 calls.
