InterFaith Works’
3rd Annual Dorothy F. Rose Women’s Forum Explores Women’s Faith and Health
“Whole Women: Mind, Body, Spirit”

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—On Thursday, November 8, 2007, InterFaith Works of Central New York will host its 3nd Annual Dorothy F. Rose Women’s Forum at Saint Lucy’s Church in Syracuse (located at 432 Gifford Street). The forum will explore the topic “Whole Women: Mind, Body, Spirit.” A welcome reception with light refreshments will be held from 4:00 – 4:30 p.m., followed by a panel discussion with question and answer session from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. All proceeds from the event will benefit InterFaith Works.

Barbara Fought, an associate professor at Syracuse University S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, will serve as the panel moderator. The panelists are: Dr. Sharon Brangman, Upstate Medical University; Farah Haq, Medical Student at Upstate Medical University; Dr. Bobby Pohar, St. Joseph’s Hospital; Jeanne Shanandoah, Onondaga Nation; and The Reverend Jikyo Bonnie Shoultz; Zen Center of Syracuse and Chaplain at Syracuse University.

Representing different faith traditions and medical sectors, the panelists will discuss how their own spirituality and religious beliefs influence health decisions they make every day and how faith can impact your own health, both emotional and physical.

Event Co-Chair Donna Stoner, Director of Volunteer Initiatives at Upstate Medical University Hospital, noted the great success of the prior two forums held in 2005 and 2006. “It’s been an amazing opportunity to share experiences with women of different faith and spiritual backgrounds. We’ve developed a genuine sense of camaraderie and synergy, despite our different faith traditions and have learned so much from these forums. We are certain this year’s panel will again be a very inspirational, educational and moving exchange.”

This event is an extension of the interfaith educational outreach of InterFaith Works of CNY which, through education, service, and dialogue, affirms the dignity of each person and every faith community and works to create relationships and understanding among us. Programs of InterFaith Works include Community Wide Dialogue to End Racism, Covenant Housing, Long Term Care Ombudsman, Refugee Resettlement, Senior Companions, and Spiritual Care.

Tickets to the forum are $30 (Supporter level $50, Patron level $75). For more information about sponsorship opportunities or purchasing tickets, contact Justin Sawyers at InterFaith Works at (315) 449-3552 ext. 114 or visit our Web site at www.interfaithworks.org.
